Managing variable conditions with greater flexibility

At a major landfill operation, leachate conditions were highly variable. Water quality shifted with weather and changing landfill conditions while the team managed highly corrosive influent, multiple liquid waste streams and evolving regulatory requirements.

The site needed a landfill leachate treatment solution that could be deployed quickly and adapt to these changing conditions without committing to a large permanent build. The solution also needed to reduce the day-to-day burden on site staff by bringing equipment, technical expertise and routine management together under one coordinated approach.

The landfill operator turned to Onterris for a rental-based modular system that provided the flexibility the site needed. The approach gave them immediate access to tailored, high-performance treatment infrastructure that could adapt as operating conditions and treatment requirements evolved, without committing to a permanent system before long-term needs were fully understood.

Building a complete treatment system around the site needs

Onterris worked closely with the client landfill team to engineer and deploy a complete modular system built designed for aggressive leachate exposure. Lined vessels and heavy-duty stainless-steel internals protected critical hardware, ensuring steady performance under tough operating conditions.

The team tied together all the necessary pumps, filtration units, monitoring tools and support equipment into a seamless setup. Taking this turnkey approach meant delivering a fully connected, single-source process, sparing the client from having to patch together separate components.

Engineering and field teams carefully aligned the system’s layout with the facility’s specific goals. Beyond core treatment, they accounted for practical operating requirements including site access, real-time monitoring, system uptime and seamless integration with broader facility operations.

Supporting operations from startup through optimization

Delivering the treatment infrastructure was only one part of the solution. Onterris led system startup and commissioning, then took on full-service operational management for the entire duration of the project.

On-site operators kept a close eye on performance, tweaking settings as influent shifted. Technical specialists backed them up with continuous process adjustments, while dedicated research teams evaluated new treatment options whenever unexpected conditions arose.

Successful leachate treatment depends on more than equipment. It requires close coordination, responsive operations and the ability to adjust as site conditions change.

This all-in-one support model gave landfill management complete visibility into performance without pulling them into every technical detail. Constant communication between field crews and key decision-makers meant adjustments happened fast whenever site conditions changed.

At project completion, Onterris will manage the full shutdown and demobilization, maintaining the same turnkey approach from initial design and deployment through final closeout. Creating a pathway beyond permanent infrastructure.

This project shows how rental-based modular treatment helps facilities solve urgent leachate issues while keeping their future options open. Sites can stand up capacity for today’s realities, gather valuable real-world data and adjust as water quality or regulations shift down the road.

For operators balancing changing waste streams against daily operational pressures, the real value lies in combining physical hardware with hands-on expertise. The equipment supplies the raw treatment power, while integrated engineering, field operations and research support keep everything running smoothly in the real world.

The modular setup continues to adapt alongside the landfill’s evolving needs. Moving forward, its performance data will offer practical clarity for future planning, providing a smart, step-by-step bridge from immediate control to long-term strategy.
